About the Antique Heriz Pattern
Heriz rugs come from a cluster of villages around the town of Heriz in northwestern Iran's East Azerbaijan province. Their hallmark is a strong geometric central medallion, anchored by spandrels and framed by a richly-detailed border. While the classic Heriz palette features a rust-red field with indigo border, weavers occasionally produced "reversed-color" pieces — indigo fields with rust borders — that have become especially sought-after for their dramatic, modern impact. I’m not sure of the quality, it seems fairly cheap. But again, the colors have just the right amount of vibrancy and the pattern is lovely, so it’s a trade-off for me.
