Bakshaish (sometimes spelled Bakhshayesh) is a small village in northwestern Iran's East Azerbaijan province, near Heriz. Bakshaish rugs are part of the broader Heriz family but are considered the rarest and most artistically distinctive: their drawing is bolder and more architectural, their fields are more open and sparse, and their palettes — saturated coral reds, deep indigo, soft ivory — are softer than typical Heriz.
